Structural Silicone Glazing Technical Downloads
Complete technical documentation for Hanart structural silicone glazing (SSG) systems — detail libraries, silicone joint specifications, weatherseal application guides, and factory quality inspection checklists.
Structural Silicone Glazing System
Hanart structural silicone glazing (SSG) bonds glass directly to the aluminum frame with high-strength structural silicone, eliminating visible caps and creating a smooth, seamless facade surface. Ideal for modern curtain wall and storefront designs.
Seamless Glass Surface
Glass is structurally bonded to the frame, leaving no exterior pressure plates or caps. The result is a smooth, flush glass surface with uninterrupted sightlines — a signature of modern commercial architecture.
Factory or Field Glazed
SSG units can be structurally glazed in our factory under controlled temperature and humidity, or field-glazed with weather-shielded procedures for retrofit projects. Both methods follow ASTM C1401 quality protocols.
Proven Longevity
With properly designed joints and accredited silicone systems, structural glazing has a 40+ year service history. Our design criteria follow ASTM C1401 and EBST guidelines with a minimum 10x design safety factor on silicone bite.

Frequently Asked Questions
What silicone types do you use for structural glazing?
We use accredited structural silicone systems from Dow, Sika, and other global manufacturers, all tested for adhesion to our specific glass coatings and aluminum finishes. The chosen system depends on your project's load requirements, climate, and substrate combination — we specify it in the project engineering package.
What is the required silicone bite depth?
Bite depth is calculated per ASTM C1401 based on wind load, glass panel dimensions, and joint requirements. Typical bite depths range from 6mm to 12mm. Our joint design guide includes calculation worksheets for your specific conditions.
Is field glazing possible, or is factory glazing required?
Both are possible. Factory glazing is recommended for optimal quality control and speed. Field glazing is feasible for retrofit projects and uses a more complex weather-shielded procedure with additional adhesion testing. Our inspection checklists support both workflows.
How do you verify silicone adhesion quality on a real project?
We follow ASTM C1521 adhesion testing protocols on project samples — peel tests at regular intervals during production, plus pull-tab tests on actual production joints. Test cards are documented with photos and logged into the project quality file, available to the client and third-party inspectors.
Can SSG be combined with unitized panel production?
Yes — unitized SSG combines the quality and speed of factory production with the seamless appearance of structural glazing. Panels are structurally glazed on our production line, then installed like standard unitized panels. This is one of Hanart's most requested configurations for premium commercial towers.
